Seventeen years later, the bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Massachusetts petitioned Rome to create a separate congregation of the Sisters of Providence based in Holyoke. This new congregation was incorporated on December 17, 1892. Their first superior was Mother Mary of Providence. The congregation is also a member of the Women of Providence in Collaboration.
